Although my finished works are nearly always in oils, the first part of the process is to get an initial sketch down while on location.

I don't always sell my sketch works - I'm just so personally critical! - but sometimes I'm happier with them and I do get asked about them on studio visits.

I always use Winsor & Newton watercolours, because they don’t run and you can get the colour on paper really quickly, which is essential when out and about, especially as weather and mood can change in the blink of an eye
